Madhushan Chandrajit from Peradeniya University's Faculty of Allied Health has been elected as the new convener of the Inter-University Student Federation, according to a statement issued by the union.
The decision was made during a session at Rajarata University.
Chandrajit replaces Wasantha Mudalige, who played a significant role during the mass uprising last year. Mudalige was held by the police under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA) for over three months.
Chandrajit's appointment reflects the trust and confidence placed in him by his peers, as he takes on the responsibility of representing and addressing the concerns of students from various state universities. His election comes at a time of growing student activism in Sri Lanka.
