The Gampola police have launched a search operation for a girl who has been missing for five days after leaving home to go to work. The missing girl has been identified as Fatima Munavuwara, a resident of Elpitiya area, who reportedly works at a pharmacy in Gelioya.
According to her brother Mohammad Imran, Fatima's image was last recorded on the CCTV cameras of the Elpitiya church leaving home. The police have been investigating the case since her family reported her missing, but have been unable to locate her so far.
In response to the situation, the villagers and the Gampola police have started a search operation in the forested areas, including Gampola, Weligalla, Elpitiya, and the banks of the Mahaweli river. The authorities are leaving no stone unturned to locate the missing girl.
Speaking about her daughter's disappearance, Fatima's mother, Sitti Zahira, revealed that she left home last Sunday to go to work. Zahira further added that Fatima asked her for only one hundred rupees as bus fare and that she has no grudges against her or anyone else.
The police are urging anyone who may have information about Fatima's whereabouts to come forward and assist with the investigation.
