President Ranil Wickramasinghe, has instructed officers to amend existing land ordinances in the country to better align with current development needs. The President also directed the appointment of a committee to expedite the process.
The instructions were issued during a discussion at the President's Office with officials from various institutions, including the Ministry of Lands. The focus of the meeting was to discuss the amendment of provisions in land management institutions and the introduction of new regulations.
During the meeting, President Wickramasinghe pointed out that many of the land policies currently in place in Sri Lanka were established during the colonial period and are no longer suitable for the country's current needs. He highlighted that the ordinances related to land use implemented at various times are not aligned with current development needs.
The appointment of a committee to oversee the amendment process is an important step towards implementing these changes quickly and efficiently.
