Relief For 3000 Govt. Workers Contesting In "Delayed" LG Polls: PM Presents Cabinet Proposal

The Cabinet of Ministers in Sri Lanka has approved a proposal to pay the basic salaries of government employees who are contesting in the upcoming Local Government (LG) election.

Around 3,000 public servants, who had submitted their nominations for the polls, had been on unpaid leave since March 9.

However, as the election was postponed, their unpaid leave was extended, causing financial difficulties.

To address this issue, the government has decided to pay the basic salaries of these employees for the period between March 9 and April 25. The proposal was made by the Prime Minister in his capacity as the Minister of Public Administration, Home Affairs, Provincial Councils & Local Government.
