SLPP Minister Sanath Nisthantha says the party is conducting an investigation into who leaked the audio of a conversation between SLPP national organiser Basil Rajapaksa and former Moratuwa MC mayor Samanlal Fernando to the media. Last week audio claiming to be of the duo engaged in a heated discussion was shared and broadcast widely. In it, Rajapaksa can be heard blaming Samanlal for the chaos that occurred on May 9 last year and also for not giving opportunities to other SLPP members in Moratuwa.

Nishantha said it is evident someone within the party is sabotaging it through such acts and therefore the party intends to find out who shared the clip with media personnel. He also said arguments of that nature within the party are commonplace and do not hint at a rift within the party.
