Police arrests parents of baby left in the Meenagaya train

Police today arrested the parents of the child left behind in the Meenagaya train yesterday. The baby was found in the lavatory of the train before it departed the Fort railway station in the night heading to Batticaloa. The child had been dressed in a woollen suit, wrapped in flannel and placed in a basket before being abandoned. A passenger had alerted the authorities after discovering the baby in the lavatory.

The parents of the baby, the Police said are an unmarried couple aged 25 and 26. They were arrested today by the Bandarawela and Koslanda Police. According to investigations it has been revealed that the baby was left behind on the train by the father who had then left for his village in Koslanda. The duo was found based on a tip-off received by the Police.
