SLPP claims its the only political party that can rebuild SL

Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) General Secretary Sagara Kariyawasam claims only his party can rebuild Sri Lanka. Accusing Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) leader Sajith Premadasa of attempting to take the country towards a capitalist economy, Kariyawasam said over the years Sri Lanka only developed economically by taking a middle path. “Our party always believed in taking a middle path between capitalism and socialism as our national economic policy. Today the people must understand it is only the SLPP that can rebuild this country through its economic policies,” he said, adding that the SLPP is the only party with those capable of handling the country’s economy. “I would like to tell the people that only the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna is there for your country, economy and future,” he added. Kariyawasam made these comments at a press conference held at the party office in Colombo yesterday.

According to the MP, it is the SLPP and its leaders that have resolved the many issues faced by the country in the past including the war. “It was our party’s leaders that ended the war and brought peace to the country. We developed the country and provided new infrastructure to create space for development. Our party made this country peaceful again. Plans were afoot to sign the MCC agreement and let foreigners act according to their whims and fancies here. We saved the country from this danger. It was our party that saved the lives of the people during Covid. SLPP was always able to provide people with the answers they sought for the issues faced,” Kariyawasam claimed.

Kariyawasam said though the economy suffered following Covid, it was a phenomenon that occurred the world over. “Therefore the people must be intelligent and decide which party can rebuild and revive this country from the current economic crisis. This is the most important decision to be made today,” he said. Kariyawasam claimed Sri Lanka collapsed economically each time leaders attempted to introduce a capitalist economic system. “We lost everything including factories as a result of this, They were destroyed. Sajith Premadasa has clearly stated he is attempting to take the country once again towards that capitalist system,” he noted.
