The Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) has refuted media reports that its General Secretary Dayasiri Jayasekara has been removed from the post of General Secretary.
Issuing a statement the party said Jayasekara had not been replaced by SLFP’s deputy secretary Sarath Ekanayake as claimed in the media reports.
The party said these reports were false and baseless. “The party rejects all such reports,” the statement said.
According to the SLFP, Ekanayake has been appointed as the party’s acting general secretary in the absence of Dayasiri who is currently abroad.
“MP Jayasekara left for the United Kingdom last morning for a personal visit and is scheduled to return on 20 March.
We the SLFP would like to inform you that Mr Ekanayake has been appointed as the party’s acting secretary only to oversee the work until the arrival of MP Jayasekara,” it said.
