Popular actress Damitha Abeyratne who was also a leading figure in the Aragalaya claims Sri Lanka would have become either a Somalia or Ethiopia today had the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) come into power during the 80s. Addressing a Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) rally in Polonnaruwa, the actress credited the SJB leaders late father Ranasinghe Premadasa for saving the country from the JVP’s savagery back in 88-89.
