In a tragic turn of events, a mother of four has died after falling from a tree while trying to pick a jackfruit to feed her children. The incident had taken place in Gampola. The deceased has been identified as 50-year-old Shanthi Kumari of Bopavita Gedera, Narangvita, Bandarawatta, Gampola.

It is said the mother has been feeding her children jackfruit due to many hardships faced recently and was in the habit of finding the fruit herself. On that tragic day she had fallen from the tree while attempting to pick the fruit for lunch.

She was rushed to hospital but died five days later.
