Police claim an unidentified gunman has attempted to shoot and kill the Chief incumbent of the Sri Mangalarama Temple in Batticaloa and Keviliyamadu Ampitiye Sumanarathana Thera.

The Thera was in his abode when he was shot at. However, he had escaped uninjured. He claims he is now in a state of shock following the incident.
