Three top Sri Lankan businessmen have died within days of each other under tragic circumstances.
Owner of Shades Fashion, Roshan Wanninyakae was found killed in the pool of a residence owned by him in Thalangama on 2 February. A couple, a 27-year-old male and a 23-year-old female have been arrested from Kadawatha in connection to his death. The duo had made away with his credit cards and spent close to Rs. 1 million to purchase air tickets and various other items. According to the Police, however, they had not been able to leave the country due to an issue with the tickets bought by them. The male suspect had claimed he killed the businessman following an argument over money.
Meanwhile, Sri Lankan billionaire Onesh Subasinghe has been founded dead in a serviced apartment in Jakarta, Indonesia. Onesh Subasinghe was the Managing Director of Opex Holding (Pvt) Ltd, a family business. According to reports Onesh was in Indonesia along with his wife, Rosa who is a Brazilian national, their four-year-old daughter and another female Brazilian national who is yet to be named. Indonesian authorities say the wife along with the daughter and other woman were seen on CCTV leaving the room after putting up a do not disturb sign. They have later taken a flight to Doha. The body of the businessman was found by the apartment staff after his family in Colombo raised the alarm after not being able to contact him. Investigations are underway.
Another Sri Lankan businessman has also died under tragic circumstances in Kenya. Managing Director of Synergy Ventures Pvt Ltd Colombo 4, Kamil Hussain passed away in Kenya on Sunday. Hussain was reported to have been infected with dengue and had also developed viral pneumonia.
