Wimal’s party begins donation drive to pay fine imposed on Ajith Prasanna found guilty of Contempt of Court
The National Freedom Front (NFF) led by Wimal Weerawasan has begun a donation drive to raise funds to pay a fine imposed by the courts on Retired Major Ajith Prasanna. Prasanna was found guilty by the Supreme Court on Tuesday on contempt of court charges.
He was sentenced to 4 years of rigorous imprisonment and was also fined Rs. 300 000. Members of the NFF are now raising funds on social media to collect the Rs. 300 000 Prasanna must pay to the court.
Three defendants, including Ajith Prasanna and two naval intelligence officers, were accused of holding a press conference and intimidating witnesses of the emblematic Navy abduction for ransom case where several top-level Navy officials were accused of abducting 11 men.
