NPP MP Harini Amarasuriya says the drama conducted at the Buddhist - Pali University was clearly not directed by a person who consumes alcohol. Harini made these comments during an interview with Asian Mirror.

The MP said,

“I am suspicious of the entire incident. There are many plots afoot to discredit government universities. I think therefore the truth behind the incident must be looked into. But it must be pointed out that those attending these universities are not children. They are over 21 years old. They aren't schoolchildren. They are adults. When they are adults, the relationship between their lecturers is not the same as it would be in a school. We cannot control them by checking their bags and questioning them if they are drinking and smoking. As they are adults things that often happen in society can happen here as well. But during my tenure of 11 years, I haven't seen such incidents as this.”
