'Pohottuwa' Campaigns Against Ranil Resurface On Social Media As Two Parties Decide To Form Common Front For LG Polls

Multiple campaigns launched by the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) targeting UNP Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe during the 2015-2019 priod have resurfaced following the party's decision to form a common alliance with the UNP for the upcoming LG polls.

Many Sri Lankan social media users expressed ridicule over the decision describing it as a move driven by political opportunism.

The two parties announced yesterday that they would contest together at the LG polls drawing severe criticism from many quarters. Our sources said many UNP activists at the grassroots level were perplexed with the decision made by the party's top hierarchy.

The SLPP launched a scathing attack on Wickremesinghe linking the latter's name to the bond scam.

One of the key campaign promises of the SLPP during the last presidential election was to bring the perpetrators of the bond scam to justice. Ironically, three years down the line, the SLPP MPs voted for Ranil Wickremesinghe to become President after Gotabhaya Rajapaksa stepped down from the post in the face of mounting public pressure.
