The Mahanayake Theras of the Asgiri and Malwathu chapters have written to President Ranil Wickremesinghe to complain about a replica Dalada Maligawa being constructed in Kurunegala, Wedakada by a person identified as Janaka Senadhipathi. The Theras in their letter said locals and foreigners have donated money and gold to the venture after falling prey to the man.

The Theras also noted recent comments made by political commentator Sepal Amarasinghe which the Theras said were insulting to Buddhism.

They said these acts are harmful to Buddhism and the Sasana as well as the most revered Dalada Maligawa. They called on the President to look into these matters and take necessary action to prevent such acts.
