Minister of Power and Energy Kanchana Wijesekara has announced that the southern and Ella tourism zones will be exempted from nighttime power disruptions from 1 December onwards.

While islandwide power cuts will continue till 15 December, i.e 1 hour during the day and 1 hour and 20 minutes during the night, the Minister said with the scheduled addition of Unit 3 of the Coal Plant to the grid on 15 December all Tourism zones identified by the Ministry of Tourism, will be exempted from night power cuts while the islandwide night power cut will also be reduced to 1 hour.

He said there will be no power cuts during Christmas and New Year holidays.
