Leader of the ultra Sinhala nationalist Bodhu Bala Sena organisation, Galagoda Atte Gnanasara Thera has been questioned by the CID over the Thilini Priyamali fraud case. The CID obtained a three-hour-long statement from the Thero on Saturday after the CID recovered an audio message sent by Thilini Piryamali to Janaki Siriwardene mentioning the Thero, claiming Priyamali had provided a significant sum of money to Siriwardane to pay for a vehicle owned by Gnanasara Thera.
CID claims the current amount misappropriated and defrauded by Priyamali is Rs. 2.5 billion.
Last week, the CID informed the Colombo Magistrate’s Court that they have so far received 14 complaints against Thilini Priyamali.
Four suspects including Thilini Priyamali, Isuru Bandara, Janaki Siriwardane and Borella Sirisumana Thera are currently in remand custody.
