Attorney at Law Nuwan Bopage has been named as the 59th accused in the case relating to the storming of the President’s house on July 9. 

Bopage a known human rights defender recently spoke at the UNHRC sessions in Geneva on the human rights violations in Sri Lanka. He is also appearing for the Convenor of the IUSF, Wasantha Mudalige who is currently incarcerated under the draconian Prevent of Terrorism Act. 

Journalist and Activist, Tharindu Jayawardena who has also been a target of law enforcement officials recently questioned if the sudden naming of Bopage as a suspect was an attempt by the Police to exact revenge on him due to his representation of Mudalige.
