A Police Seargent attached to former President Chandrika Kumaratunge’s security detail has been allegedly abducted and robbed by an unidentified group. It is said the incident had taken place on 2 November near the Gamini Hall area in Colombo. According to the complaint lodged by the Police officer, a group in a blue van had stopped as he was walking along the road and asked him for directions to Galle Road.

He claimed that a person in the van had pulled him inside and blindfolded him. The abduction victim claims he overheard his kidnappers talking claiming they had abducted the wrong person. He said they had robbed him of the Rs. 40 000 he had on his person and had dropped him off in a town, he later learnt was Beliatta. The Police are carrying out further investigations into the incident through CCTV evidence.
