Sri Lankan cricketer Danushka Gunathilake has been arrested in Australia over an allegation of sexual assault levelled against him by a 29-year-old Australian woman. According to sources he had met her through a dating app and had sexually assaulted her on 2 November evening. The incident occurred at a residence in Rose Bay, a suburb of Sydney.

Following a complaint, the Australian Police arrested him at a hotel in Sussex Street Sydney last night. He has been charged with four counts of sexual intercourse without consent. He has been refused bail and is due to appear in the Parramatta Bail Court via video conference today.

The team has returned to Sri Lanka while he now remains incarcerated. Gunathilake had been benched due to an injury when this alleged incident took place.
