Namal Kumara, the self-styled Director (Operations) of the Anti-Corruption Force has been arrested by the Warakapola Police over a sexual assualt allegation yesterday. He has since been released on bail. A video of Namal Kumara tied up to a chair with his wife standing by his side has gone viral on social media.

In it a woman can be heard claiming that Namal Kumara had entered her house secretly and carried out a sexual assualt on her. According to the Police, a group of people had caught Namal Kumara and had assaulted him after being alterted by the woman. Several people involved in the attack were also arrested.

Following his release, Kumara speaking to the media denied the allegations and said he had gone to spy on the location as it is a known illicit liquor brewing facility. He also claimed he was a Police informant, a claim the Police has since denied.
