Minister Prasanna Ranatunge says the government must get tough on protestors. Responding to questions posed by the media yesterday at an event, Ranatunge said if the people wish to peacefully protest against the problems facing them then it should be allowed. “But if they attempt to attack or kill people then the government must take tough steps against them,” he said.
“Getting tough doesn't mean unleashing repression. What it means if they attempt to unleash repression then likewise repression should be unleashed on them,” he said. “If they are attempting to topple the government by attacking people or setting houses on fire then they must be crushed,” he said.
