The families of the victims of enforced disappearances held a protest yesterday against the visit of Minister of Justice Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe to the North. The families protested in front of the Jaffna District Secretariat amidst heavy rains to voice their opposition against the Office of Missing Persons. Holding photographs of their missing loved ones and placards calling the OMP a sham, the mothers called for an international mechanism to deliver justice to them.
The families are also declining the government’s offer to grant Rs. 200 000 as compensation and instead demanding to know the fate of their family members.
