Government sources said that discussions are currently underway for several Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna stalwarts holding ministerial positions to cross over to the United National Party. An independent MP of the SLPP is said to be brokering this imminent political crossover, the source confirmed.

It is said he has recently met powerful SLPP Ministers from the Colombo, Gampaha, Kandy, Galle, and Matara districts for the purpose.
