The Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka said that it was decided to grant relief to the increased electricity bills in places of worship including temples during the revision of the rates carried out in August by adding it to the general purpose category.
Accordingly, the PUCSL chairman said the tariffs for places of worship which have currently been increased by 550%, will be revised accordingly.
He pointed out that the price charged for a unit in the general purpose category is Rs. 32. He further said that a system has been prepared to lower 50% of the increased bill and that the Ceylon Electricity Board has now been asked to take the relevant steps.
