The Supreme court today granted two fundamental rights petitions filed naming Former Finance Ministers Mahinda Rajapaksa, Basil Rajapaksa, Ali Sabri, former Central Bank Governors Ajit Nivard Cabral, W.D. Lakshman and current Central Bank Governor Dr Nandalal Weerasinghe as respondents leave to proceed.
Petitions have been filed asking for the appointment of a committee to look into the economic crisis that has arisen due to irregular financial management.
Accordingly, a five-member bench consisting of Chief Justice Jayantha Jayasuriya and justices Bhuvaneka Aluvihare, Priyantha Jayawardena, Vijith Malalgoda and L.T.B. Dehideniya after considering the petitions for many days granted leave to proceed today.
