Sources claim the President has instructed the Attorney General to look into the possibility of invalidating the gazette issue declaring several areas as high security zones. The President is said to have issued the gazette following the advice of several top officials in the Ministry of Public Security.
But sources claim that a group of economic experts have made a lengthy presentation to President Ranil Wickremesinghe that due to this gazette, there will be a severe impact on business activities in the central economic zone of Colombo.
Accordingly, the President has given instructions to the relevant departments led by the Ministry of Public Security to remove these high security zones and prepare a special security program in coordination with intelligence agencies instead.
However, reliable sources confirm that this will be done after the President returns to Sri Lanka after his visit to Japan, as the signature of the President is required to cancel this gazette announcement.
