Panadura Additional Magistrate Lahiru N Silva today ordered the case against cricketer Kusal Mendis, who is accused of killing a person by recklessly and carelessly driving his car, to be called for further hearing on November 30.
The dates were set when the case filed by the Panadura North Police was taken up today before the courts. Mendis is accused of running over a 64-year-old victim identified as Neville Peiris, a resident of Gorakapola, Panadura.
Mendis is accused of reckless and negligent driving, failure to avoid an accident, fleeing without taking the injured to the hospital and failure to report the accident.
The magistrate ordered that a medical report on the deceased be submitted and the charge sheet is filed and summons be issued to witnesses 1, 3 and 5 of the prosecution.
Mendis’s lawyer Akila Jayasundara said Mendis was innocent thereby denying the charges levelled against him.
