Minister of Power and Energy Kanchana Wijesekara says the supply of power may face disruptions if the government fails to procure coal according to the tender process.
Speaking in parliament yesterday (08) Wijesekara said many coal suppliers are reluctant to provide coal under the current tender process.
He said “We cannot survive without coal for 6-7 months. The current coal stocks are only sufficient till October 15. If we do not initiate procurement procedures thereafter we will face many difficulties. I urge you to inform the Speaker of this as it can lead to chaos in the country. Without coal, we will have to initiate 7-8 hour power cuts leading to uncertainty yet again”
