All faculties except the Medical Faculty at the University of Kelaniya have been closed down until further notice, Higher Education Ministry sources said.

The decision has been made after students protested some security measures that were introduced to ensure the safety of students.

Our sources said the situation had resulted in tensions between the university authorities and students.

Enhanced security measured have been put in place to strengthen security in state universities following the Easter Sunday explosions.
