A 6-member committee has been appointed to probe the conduct of Dr. Mohammed Shafi who was arrested by the Police over the weekend.
The Health Ministry Secretary said the committee would conduct an impartial inquiry into the professional conduct of the doctor.
Over 50 complaints have already been lodged against the 42-year-old doctor who was arrested at the Kurunegala hospital.
Meanwhile, Dambulla Police said it also received a complaint against the doctor in question. The complainant had said she could not have children again after Dr. Shihabdeen Shafi performed a caesarean surgery on her.
However, hospital sources said they were yet to conduct a formal investigation into the complaints lodged against the doctor. It is learned that the large majority of complainants cited multiple irregularities that took place during surgeries performed by Dr. Shafi.
Dr. Shafi, who was arrested by the Police for amassing wealth in a suspicious manner, is currently under the custody of the CID.
