Bodu Bala Sena General Secretary Galagodaaththe Gnanasara Thera said he would stay away from politics and focus on religious activities.

Speaking to the media upon his release from prison, Gnanasara Thera said he did his best to save the country from extremism. "I am tired now. I went through a lot of hardships because I acted in the best interests of the country, " he added.

Gnanasara Thera the pertinent issues he raised for several years still remain unaddressed and the Easter Sunday attacks was only a manifestation of the Islamist extremism prevailing in the country.

"I take this opportunity to than everyone who supported me. I particularly thank President Maithripala Sirisena for releasing me on a presidential pardon, " he added.
