The Police imposed curfew in the North Western Province following a tense situation that prevailed in the area earlier today.
"The curfew will remain in the North Western province until further notice, " a spokesman from the Police Media Unit said.
Police curfew was reimposed inon the Kuliyapitiya, Bingiriya, Hettipola, Dummalasuriya police divisions till 4 AM tomorrow.
Later, the police curfew was expanded to Rasnayakapura and Kobeigane Police divisions as well.
A tense situation prevailed in the area when unruly mobs attempted to attack mosques and Muslim-owned businesses in several areas in the Kurunegala district. The Army has been deployed to control the situation.
