Former Army Commander Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka said former Defence Ministry Secretary Hemasiri Fernando and IGP Pujith Jayasundara have been made scapegoats to cover up the security lapses leading to the Easter Sunday explosions.
Speaking to the media, Fonseka indicated that the superiors of Fernando and Jayasundara should be held responsible for the chinks in the country's security system.
Fernando has already resigned from his post while IGP Jayasundara has been sent on compulsory leave. Jayasundara, however, has defied President Sirisena's orders to resign from the post.
Meanwhile. Fonseka also added that former Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa cannot be held responsible for the suicide explosions in Colombo.
"It is not Gotabaya who transported bombs to Colombo," Fonseka said dismissing claims by his party colleagues that the former Defence Secretary initially supported the National Thowheed Jamaath organization.
