Eastern Province Governor M.L.A.M. Hizbullah's office was raided by the Police today.
During the raid, the Police recovered over 40 T56 bullets and several other suspicious items. The Police arrested two people, allies of Hizbullah, in connection with the recovery bullets and other items.
Meanwhile, issuing a statement, Governor Hizbullah said the 48 T56 bullets recovered from his office were ones provided by the Kattankudi Police to his bodyguards.
The Eastern Province Governor maintained that the bullets were legal and his bodyguards would soon give a statement to the Police.
Hizbullah, an associate of President Maithripala Sirisena, came under criticism recently for his alleged links with the National Thowheed Jamath (NTJ) organization, which has been banned by the government in the wake of Easter Sunday explosions.
