Senior government ministers have publicly requested President Maithripala Sirisena to ban the National Thowheed Jamath (NTJ) and list it as a terrorist organization.
The government has confirmed that the National Thowheed Jamath executed the Easter Sunday attacks which claimed the lives of over 320 people.
Ministers Sagala Ratnayaka and Ruwan Wijewardena have requested President Sirisena to ban the oranization with immediate effect in the wake of the explosions.
The National Thowheed Jamath is a Sri Lankan organization that has been in operation for nearly four years.
Its founder is suspected to be among the suicide bombers who carried out the multiple terrorist attacks in Sri Lanka on Sunday.
Meanwhile, the Islamic State (IS) has claimed responsibility for the attack. The Sri Lankan authorities are investigating the links between the IS and the National Thowheed Jamath.
