The Islamic State (IS) has claimed responsibility for the deadly Easter Sunday attacks in Sri Lanka.
AMAQ news agency, operated by the Islamic State, confirmed that the IS was responsible for the explosions.
However, the IS yet to provide proof to corroborate its claim. The Sri Lankan government has stated that all suspects who have been arrested in connection to the attacks are locals.
The Easter Sunday attack was the largest terrorist attack in the South Asian region in recent history.
Speaking in Parliament, Defence State Minister Ruwan Wijewardena said initial investigations had revealed that the attack had been carried out in response to the Christchurch mosque attack in New Zealand earlier this year.
