Making a damning statement against IGP Pujith Jayasundara, Health Minister Rajitha Senaratne said the Police Chief should take the blame for the events that unfolded in Sri Lanka yesterday.
Addressing a press conference at Temple Trees a short while ago, Senaratne said a group named National Thowheed Jamath was behind the attack and all suicide bombers were locals.
"We are investigating whether they have links with outside parties. But we can say all suspects who have been arrested so far are Sri Lankans," Senaratne added.
The Health Minister also confirmed that the Police received prior information relating to a possible terror attack from foreign intelligence agencies. "It is the primary responsibility of the Police to act on this kind of information and ensure public safety. But they have failed to do so. That is why the IGP must resign," Senaratne added.
The Minister also added that the Prime Minister had summoned the national security council yesterday after the attacks but the council members refused to meet him. "The Prime Minister had then gone to the Ministry of Defence and kept waiting for 20 minutes while the council had their meeting."
