Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, addressing a press conference at Temple Trees, said the Cabinet was kept informed of prior warnings relating to possible terror attacks.
The Prime Minister also stated that the government would investigate why adequate action was not taken by the Police to prevent an attack, despite prior warnings.
The Prime Minister's statement lends credence to the document that is being circulated on Facebook indicating that the Police had information about a possible terror attack targeting religious places and the Indian High Commission of Colombo. The government previously announced that the document was not authentic.
While asserting that the government would allow terrorism to raise its head again, Wickremesinghe added that he had a discussion with a number of political leaders, including Opposition Leader Mahinda Rajapaksa, TNA Leader R. Sampanthan, Speaker Karu Jayasuriya on the current situation.
He also stated that he spoke to Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith and the Mahanayake Theras on controlling the situation and preventing the recurrence of a similar incident.
