Speaker Karu Jayasuriya today said he was not ready to fight for any position, including the presidential candidacy of the party. 

Speaking to the media in Kandy, Jayasuriya said he would only consider the presidential candidacy if there was a common request from everyone in the party. 

"It is not my way to beg for positions or fight for them. I am willing to serve my country in any capacity. I am not bothered about positions, " Jayasuriya said.

"I will only get a position if I am destined for that. I am a believer of destiny and I do not wish to push things too hard, " Jayasuriya told the reports. 

The Speaker also met the chief prelates of the Malwatte and Asgiriya chapters today and sought blessings for the challenges ahead.
