UNP Parliamentarian Chaminda Wijesiri has surrendered to the Bandarawela Police for assaulting a Police officer. 

Speaker Karu Jayasuriya yesterday gave permission to the Police to arrest the Parliamentarian over the criminal offence. 

It has been reported that Wijesiri assaulted the Police officer for overtaking his vehicle, in Bandarawela, on Sunday night. 

An officer is attached to the Narcotic Division of the Bandarawela Police station. 

Wijesri has been avoiding the Police since Sunday night although the Police attempted to record a statement from his on the incident.

The Police officer was later admitted to hospital for medical treatment.
