A man has been arrested by the Agbopura police today for attempting to attack UPFA Parliamentarian Susantha Punchinilame with a sickle. 

Police sources said the suspect was a herdsman in the area. The suspect had attacked the former Minister when the latter's vehicle attempted to navigate through a flock of goats owned by the herdsman. 

The bodyguards of the MP had prevented the attack and assaulted the herdsman. 

They had also lodged a complaint with the Police saying the man attempted to attack the former Minister and he was drunk during the encounter. 

Following the complaint, the Police later arrested the man who was receiving treatment in a hospital after the assault by the MP's bodyguards. 

He was later released on bail.
