Power and Energy Minister Ravi Karunanayake said bureaucracy has prevented the government from carrying out effective and rapid development programmes.
Addressing a meeting in the Rajagiriya, Karunanayake said no other government allocated more money for development than the current government.
"Government officials are responsible for the implementation of development programmes initiated by politicians. Officials must know that politicians are elected by the public to fulfil their needs. officials should not sabotage the development work designed by politicians," Karunanayake added.
He also stated that in some areas, development projects have been hampered by bureaucrats.
"As a result, there seems to be an imbalance in the development approach of the government. We., as the government, must resort to self-criticism and review the progress we have achieved so far," Karunanayake added.
Karunanayake also stated that the public was sick of promises. "Now we have to walk the talk. The burning issues of the country cannot be solved through circulars. We have engaged in 'Yahalanaya' thus far. No we have to do politics," the Minister said.
