Health Minister Rajitha Senaratne said President Maithripala Sirisena spoke to him and assured that the Government Medical Officers Association (GMOA) had lied to the media when they said the President decided to appoint a Presidential Commission to probe into corruption allegations involving the Ministry of Health.
Addressing a press conference in Colombo a short while ago, Senaratne said the President assured that there would not be any commission to probe into the Health Ministry.
"He said no such matter was discussed during the meeting he had with the GMOA. He also said the GMOA had lied to the media about the appointment of a commission."
"The President said there were no provisions to appoint a Presidential Commission to probe into a government ministry. He said this story was a figment of someone's imagination," the Health Minister added.
Senaratne said he would have a lengthy discussion with President Sirisena on the matter when the latter returns from his 4-day visit to the Philippines.
