IGP Pujitha Jayasundara today arrived at the Government Analyst's Department for a voice sample test on the investigation over the alleged assassination plot on President Maithripala Sirisena and former Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa.
Police Media Spokesman Ruwan Gunasekera told an international news service last month that there is no substantial evidence to prove a plot on the lives of Sirisena and Rajapaksa. The CID also recovered some deleted voice samples from Namal Kumara's mobile phone.
Meanwhile, the CID has already informed the court that the so-called whistle-blower Namal Kumara is an Army deserter who joined the military service after providing forged certificates.
However, investigations are underway to ascertain whether DIG Nalaka Silva, who has been arrested over Namal Kumara's claims, was involved in a plot to murder a senior Police officer.
DIG Silva, former head of the Terrorist Investigations Division (TID), continues to remain in the Police custody.
