UPFA Parliamentarian Vasudewa Nanayakkara said the Parliamentary Committee on High Posts could not do anything to overturn the appointment of Sri Lankan Ambassador to Russia Dr. Dayan Jayatilleka.
Speaking in Parliament, Nanayakkara said the committee could not initiate any action against the Ambassador after his formal appointment.
JVP MP Bimal Ratnaike raised a question in Parliament yesterday against the conduct of the Sri Lankan Ambassador in Russia saying the latter was using his diplomatic posting for political campaigning.
Defending Jayatilleka's conduct, Nanayakkara said Jayatilleka was working with the President's consent.
"The President recommended him to the post. He is currently working with the President's blessings," the UPFA parliamentarian said.
Numerous parties raised objections against Jayatilleka's appointment when his name was first sent to the Committee on High Posts for approval.
