The Constitutional Council stood by its decisions and reconfirmed the appointments of Justice S. Thurairaja PC and Justice E.A. G. R. Amarasekara to the Supreme Court.
Although the two names were approved by the Council earlier, the President sent another two names for the consideration of the Constitutional Council.
The majority of CC members decided to disregard the new nominations by the President and reconfirm its earlier decision.
However, the Constitutional Council decided to unanimously approve the name sent by President Sirisena as the replacement of the recently-retired Supreme Court judge Eva Wanasundara.
Sirisena nominated Court of Appeal Chairman Padman Surasena as Wanasundara's replacement in the Supreme Court.
