Former UPFA Parliamentarian Shantha Bandara, who failed to secure a parliamentary seat at the last General Election, is likely to be appointed to Parliament through the national list. 

Bandara will replace UPFA national list MP M.L.A.M. Hizbullah who was appointed the new Governor of the Eastern province today. 

Following the new appointment, Hizbullah will have to resign from his Parliamentary seat with immediate effect. 

Bandara currently heads the youth organization of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP).
