Former Deputy Mayor of Colombo Asath Salley is tipped to be appointed a provincial governor, sources close to President Maithripala Sirisena said.
New governors are expected to take oaths before President Sirisena this evening.
Formerly a member of the UNP, Salley became an associate of Sirisena after the latter's appointment as the President. He is currently an Advisor to the President.
He was also a member of the Central Provincial Council.
Government sourced added Salley would be appointed the Governor of the Eastern Province.
President Sirisena, earlier this week, requested all provincial governors to step down from office.
It is reported that he may not appoint former Northern Provoncial Governor Reginald Cooray
